Our working groups are an essential part of Lokoja Dialogues’ four step methodology. Challenges faced by our focus communities are interrogated by curated teams of subject matter experts,
community representatives, academia, investors and the public sector. Water connects three interdependent systems. When managed well.

Through this pillar, our advocacy will emphasise strengthening the water–energy nexus at the
community level to improve resilience and productivity. Lokoja Dialogues focuses on harnessing
energy to drive reliable irrigation ensuring rural communities can pump, store, and distribute water
efficiently for farming, processing, and WASH use. We will consider solutions and strategies that
leverage smaller and community-scale systems such as micro-dams, mini-grids, and solar-
powered pumps.

This pillar promotes water management approaches that ensure sustainable and secure
agricultural production for communities, particularly in regions vulnerable to drought, flooding, the
effects of climate change, and resource competition. We will identify and amplify solutions for
agricultural water use, while advocating for investments that enable farmers, especially women, to
safely add value to their produce and strengthen rural livelihoods.

Wetland ecosystems mitigate the effects of flooding and drought, support long-term water
management by maintaining groundwater levels, and provide a critical foothold for biodiversity.
Despite these benefits, wetlands are disappearing from Nigeria due to land development, pollution
and invasive species. We will identify strategies to restore and conserve wetland ecosystems to
secure long-term access to fresh water for drinking, farming and fishing.
